The Association

The Association was established in 1976 to provide a forum for the discussion of issues relating to Welsh/English translation and interpreting.

The Association is a registered company limited by guarantee.

As the Association's logo suggests it covers both written translation and interpreting.

The Association’s aim is to ensure Professional Translation Standards in the field of Welsh/English translation and interpreting.

The Association is a member of the Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs (FIT ). FIT is an international federation of translators, interpreters and terminologists. Its purpose is to promote professionalism in the disciplines it represents.

The Association has two Honorary Presidents – Dr Bruce Griffiths and Dafydd Glyn Jones, joint editors of Geiriadur yr Academi – The Welsh Academy English-Welsh Dictionary. Before their retirement, Dr Bruce Griffiths was a Reader in the Department of Modern Languages at University of Wales Bangor and Dafydd Glyn Jones was a Reader in the Welsh Department at the same university college.
