The Association
The Association was established in 1976 to provide
a forum for the discussion of issues relating to Welsh/English
translation and interpreting.
The Association is a registered company limited by guarantee.
As the Association's logo suggests it covers both written translation
and interpreting.
The Association’s aim is to ensure Professional Translation
Standards in the field of Welsh/English translation and interpreting.
The Association is a member of the Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs (FIT ). FIT is an international federation of translators, interpreters and terminologists. Its purpose is to promote professionalism in the disciplines it represents.
The Association has two Honorary Presidents – Dr Bruce
Griffiths and Dafydd Glyn Jones, joint
editors of Geiriadur
yr Academi – The
Welsh Academy English-Welsh Dictionary. Before their
retirement, Dr Bruce Griffiths was a Reader in the Department of
Modern Languages
at University of Wales Bangor and Dafydd Glyn Jones was a Reader
in the Welsh Department at the same university college.
The Association advises the Welsh Language Board
on translation issues |
